This year the Geelong Concert Band will celebrate it’s 30th year of community banding. We will be setting concert dates very soon, so make sure you come back to find out the dates. Our plan is to have four concerts with the final concert in November to be held at Costa Hall. Past members will be invited to play with the band in a massed finale, so if you haven’t picked up your instrument for a while, start having a blow so you are ready to join us. More details on this will be published soon.
This year we have Michael Wilding conducting the Workshop Band, Kate Zampatti returns to conduct the Community Band and Mark Irwin will lead the overall GCB and will be conducting the Senior Band.
Inquiries for all three bands are welcome. If you have been playing for 12-24 months then the Workshop Band would be ideal for you. If you play at around a Grade 3 AMEB standard or above then the Community Band is for you and if you play at grade 6 AMEB or above then the Senior band may be a bit more challenging for you. In the Senior Band we are particularly looking for clarinet and tenor sax players. If you are interested in joining the the band, please contact Trish Kinrade (President) on 0417 148 193 or email email@example.com.
Last year we farewelled Kevin Cameron who conducted the Community Band for the past 2 years and we are very grateful for his contribution to the band which included taking the Community Band to the Victorian State Band Championships where they won the Open C Grade Championship. They also played in the Melbourne Schools Music Festival and were awarded a platinum award.
All three bands return to rehearsals on Friday February 5th at the following times:
Workshop Band – 4:30-6:00
Community Band – 6:00-8:00
Senior Band – 8:00-10:00
All rehearsals are held at Robertson Hall, Geelong College Prep School, enter off Minerva Rd unless otherwise advised. We look forward to seeing you there.
